TinyOS 1.x has a similarly minimal or non-existent architecture. One
of the points I made in the meeting is the following (summarized for
email):
Most of the innovation in wireless sensor networks is occurring at the
network layer. Current users of TinyOS have a very difficult time
defining new protocols due to the lack of structure. By not
specifying an architecture and its composition, there is an artificial
barrier for users to create network protocols that address their
particular application needs. Such a barrier is detrimental to TinyOS
and is one of the main complaints I hear from users. My position is
that a well-defined architecture would significantly benefit the
overall TinyOS cause and attract more users to build more protocols
rather than the current approach that scares them away.
