[Tinyos-alliance] TEP 120

Dear all,

The document looks good.

A couple of questions/comments about branding. I think it is very much
appropriate to state in the TEP that branding is not an immediate
problem but one that will be tackled as TinyOS matures. I think
however that we should give general guidelines about the way we intend
to 'connect the use of the term with membership, contribution, and
conformance to Alliance rules and guidelines'.
- In the discussion we had on this issue back in February (I did not
see in the notes that it was discussed since), we agreed that (i)
branding and licenses should be kept separate, and (ii) the alliance,
not members should control the use of the TinyOS name.
- We rely on a code of conduct and social pressure to ensure the IP
policy. Do these principles also apply to the use of the TinyOS name
and logo?
- to grant use of the term tinyos, does the alliance need some form of
industrial property (e.g., registered trademark)? Is this option on
the table?
- We rely on a code of conduct and social pressure to ensure the IP
policy. Do these principles also apply to the use of the TinyOS name
and logo?

And one point about the user communities. Do we want to state that the
alliance encourages the creation of (national) TinyOS user
communities? Should the alliance play a role wrt these federations.
For example, some could be endorsed by the alliance while others are
not (another angle on the branding issue).

Best regards,
Philippe.
