I haven't had good luck with serial programming from a VM to a MIB510,
either using uisp or avrdude, over a USB-serial cable (because avrdude
didn't work either, and I did a bit of debugging, I'm not that
inclined to blame uisp). I'm not 100% clear if the problem is with the
VM, the USB-serial driver, the USB-serial cable, or the MIB510 itself
(I've previously had lesser problems with the same USB-serial cable -
it would work with uisp, but not for remote debugging). I've switched
to an ethernet-based programmer instead ;-)
