To fix the kind of error you reported here:

/home/beutel/eclipsetos/tinyos-2.x/tos/chips/atm128/pins/HplAtm128InterruptPinP.nc:41: Error: Assertion will always fail in pointer access check:

please update to Kevin's latest avr-gcc packages (you probably have to 
manually uninstall/reinstall, unless he is bumping the revision number for 
these minor releases).  If you have the latest compiler/deputy these apps 
should compile and run in safe mode.
