Prabal Dutta once tossed out the idea of packaging up TinyOS installs  
as VMs. Users would just need to download VMWare's free VMPlayer. It  
could make installing a lot easier...

I think that once 2.0 makes its way out the door, I'll try to do this  
for it. I chatted with Mendel a bit about it, and he noted that the  
big issue is redistribution rights. So, for example, making a VM with  
windows installed available would be problematic, but with Linux it  
would be no big deal. The only trick with Linux is the Sun JDK  
license, but I'm sure there would be an easy way to handle that  
(e.g., when you first boot it installs it for you).
