Which one is better depends on who do you ask and what you want to do.
- If your research is about testing different routing/mesh protocols or
radio level stuff, TinyOS is more open and might offer you more
flexibility.
- If your work is more focused on the application layer or back end data
analysis and you want to use a proven, reliable routing stack (i.e.
XMesh), MoteWorks might be the one for you.
Again, that's my personal opinion.

I am wondering what is the difference between the following two:
1. install TinyOS and Cygwin to develop applications;
2. install MoteWorks to develop applications
which one is better? more powerful?
