Hi, 

I use Stargate and to launch it you must write: ./asf  9001 /dev/tts/2 57600 mica2 

I don't know whether you have already use it. Anyway you can try to download from tinyos cvs the latest version of c-based SerialForwarder and compile it.

Another possibility is that you haven't followed properly the SerialForwarder protocol, if you look inside the serialforwarder code you will see the protocol.
