[Tinyos-help] Basic TinyOS2 update question

Hello List,

I've spent a fair amount of time reading docs and googling but I  
haven't been able to find satisfactory answers to a number of  
questions.  (To give you an idea of my personal situation I'm working  
in a TinyOS 2 dev environment running in a VMware virtual machine and  
am hoping to update several Tmote Sky's to TinyOS 2 from 1).

What software exactly is "running" a mote?  Is there an OS or is it a  
single event-driven process?  If there is an "OS" is it TinyOS or some  
kind of BIOS like firmware?

Is there such a thing as updating a *mote* to TinyOS 2 (kernel,  
libraries, etc)?

If so how does one update the OS as opposed to installing an  
application where I just cd to the application's source directory and  
"make tmote install,0"
