VMware Server doesn't include features for sharing files between the
host OS and guest OS, but VMware Player does.  If you don't mind
starting from scratch, Kevin Klues has another tutorial that uses VMware
Player instead of VMware Server:

Alternatively, you can install the openssh-server package on your
XubunTOS VM and then copy files to it using an SFTP client.
