[Tinyos-help] serial port connection

Hi,
I am using mib520ca with iris. I would like to connect the usb  
programming board to a serial port in a java programmable modem.
Connected mib520 to modem with usb to rs232 cable but when atempt to  
read from java I get nothing.
If I connect the modem to the computer I can read correctly.
Could not get anything when trying to raw read from hyperterminal  
(windows) until installed ftdi driver.
Does this mean I need to have some kind of driver to read from the  
java program I use in the modem?
Is this related with my previous (still unanswered) question about not  
receiving anything with java net.tinyos.tools.ListenRaw -iris /dev/ 
ttyUSB1 (linux) although receiving with listen or msgreader.
