[Tinyos-help] Backoff in CsmaC

Hi,
does somebody knows how the backoff procedure works in the  
CC2420CsmaC component?
Suppose the scenario where a node wants to send a packet but the  
channel is busy. As far as I understand, the node will back off and  
retry a moment later. But, what I don't understand is whether the  
node will keep trying to send the packet indefinitely if the channel  
is busy, or if it will give up after several retries. Somebody knows?
