You can checkout the tinyos-1.x from the cvs with this command:
        cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous at tinyos.cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/tinyos co -P tinyos-1.x
Note: this will also download the contrib directory which is quite big 
(about 180MB). The whole thing is about 240MB.
