[Tinyos-help] what is the "active message"

I am studing tinyos using version 1.x
nowadays i worried about active message.
 
I got some imformation about active message for tinyos 
but I can't understand about that
 
1. please explain what is the "active message"
 
2. Can I use active message by using s-mac?
