[Tinyos-help] Platforms

Hi,
I'm very new in tinyos :-)

What is the real function of platforms? Are they necessary to tell the
compiler how to configure the I/O ports, registers, etc...?

If I have a microcontroller MSP430 (I think there's a platforms that
includes this micro) and a radio chip CC2500 (I think not supported in the
common created platforms: telosb,

micaz. etc...). Do I have to create an specific platform to link the I/O
ports and registers of MSP430 and CC2500?

And, What is the real function of radio chips CCxxxx?
