08/10/2005 Agenda
-----------------
- Pre2 release

08/17/2005 Agenda
-----------------
- power mgt in 2.x (Martin)

08/10/2005 Discussion Notes
----------------------------------------------------------

Pre2 Release
--------------
- Phil (Phil Levis) checked in changes to have things that end in P or
C (see TEP 3 Coding Conventions). Not a strict rule, simply
something to help out when perusing code.
- Next step is to tag, put together an rpm. Tools are in a good state.
- Vlado: has some changes to msp430 spec files. Is going to
- Phil: rpms ready on Monday; people should test the rpms.

Post Pre2 Direction
----------------------
More test apps
- Phil B: Would be nice to flesh out apps dir; have a set of
regression tests or tests that you can run your platform against. Apps
directory as a baseline regression test for evaluating if a particular
platform is fully ported and functional to 2.x. CntToRfm, etc..
- Phil: There is an app/test directory that has some of those things.
- Vlado: Maybe should extend TEPs to include preferred testing application.
- Martin: should we encourage platform writers to write such unit tests?
- Phil B: Sure, running HPL unit tests would be useful, but running tests in
the apps directory would ensure some degree of interoperability.
Communication organization
- Vlado: there are several remaining issues, ex: routing protocols,
  communication library organization.
Power Management
- Martin: tiered power mgt system. Need some way to guarantee that platform
can intercept power-down event, pass on to sensorboard, return to platform
and have final decision on how to get pins into power downed state.
- Vlado: microcontroller must have some communication w/external copmonents to
determine if it's *safe* to go to sleep
- Martin: 1.x lacked clean signaling system for 'power down your sb driver';
would like to make that explicit
- Phil: sounds like something we want to look at deeply; seems like a
big unanswered question and it's very important; careful look would likely
  save headaches down the road
Pre2 Potential feedback
- Phil: who has tried boot sequence and built an application and all that? Will
be interesting to see how many people will try it out and have comments.
- Vlado: pre2 release will tell a lot; very important that tool chain
  must work well.

Next time:
-------------
- Martin will write up something on power mgt to discuss.
